"I think I might want to," I said thoughtfully. "Do you want to go with me?"

“That would certainly make it more enjoyable,” I said, glancing at her and smiling. “That would be nice.”

"Oh, I'm glad," I said, setting out place settings. When I was done, I moved to sit next to him by the hearth. He had a bit of soot by his eye, and I reached over to wipe it away. "Hold still," I murmured.

I leaned into her touch slightly, unable to hold completely still when she was touching me.

With the pad of my thumb, I gently rubbed away the soot. "All gone," I said softly, before turning my eyes to the meat. "How do you like your steak?" I asked.

“Medium,” I answered with a smile.

I turned my eyes to the meat. "I'll turn it soon, then," I replied. The pot was boiling, and I picked up a pair of tongs to pull out a stalk of asparagus. I blew on it before taking a bite. It was firm, but soft enough to eat. I offered it to Darien. "Want to try?"

Leaning in, I took a bite off the stalk. “Mmm, it’s perfect,” I said, smiling.

"Oh, good," I said. Taking up the tongs, I lifted the remaining vegetables out of the pot onto a serving dish, before picking up a potholder to lift the water off the hook and onto the floor. Standing, I brought the vegetables to the table, where I sprinkled them with a bit of salt for flavor. Hastily, I returned to the hearth in time to flip the steaks. They gave off a delicious aroma. "Mmm," I said. "They smell so good."

“Yes, they do,” I agreed, reaching out and stroking a finger along a tress of her hair.

I leaned slightly towards his hand. "Is my hair messy?" I whispered.

"Not at all," I answered with a smile. "I just like touching your hair."

"Oh," I said, smiling softly. "I like when you touch my hair, too."

"That works well then," I said, smiling. I caressed her hair again before drawing my hand back."I should let you work."

"I just need to keep my eye on the meat now," I replied, training my eyes to it. "I hardly ever eat steak, so this is a real treat for me."

“It’s a treat for me as well,” I said, smiling and then rising. I went pulled off my paint speckled shirt and found a clean one, feeling like the dinner deserved me being presentable.

I snuck a glance over my shoulder at him as he changed his shirt, admiring the strong muscles of his back and shoulders before turning my eyes back to our dinner.

Once I was presentable, I returned to the table. “Anything else I can do to help?” I asked.

I laughed a bit. "I know I just set the table, but would you mind bringing the plates over here? That way, I can just put the meat right on them." I shook my head. "I can be a bit scatterbrained, sometimes."

"It's easy to forget when you don't do something all the time," I said with a smile, picking up the plates and bringing them to her.

"Thank you," I said. "I suppose you are right abut that." Picking up the tongs, I lifted the meat off the grille onto the plates. Standing up with them, I made to go to the table.

I served us each a potato, before moving to serve the vegetables. "Say when?" I asked, before putting some on his plate.

"Thank you," I said, serving myself some vegetables. Picking up my utensils, I cut myself a piece of meat and tasted it. "Mmm...it is so delicious!" I said, after chewing and swallowing.

I’d taken a bite when she did. “I have to agree, this is wonderful,” I said, after I’d swallowed.
