“No personally, but I know of her,” I answered as we mounted the last set of stairs. “Congratulations.”

I grinned. "Thank you. Yes, she gives me great honour with this."

“Ruskovian men seem to be doing very well with my countrywomen,” I said, chuckling.

I chuckled and could only agree. "Yes, my brothers and I are very lucky. I am praying to the gods that for us, luck keeps, umm, riding."

“Perhaps I should visit Ruskovia and see how my luck is with your countrywomen,” I said, laughing.

"I think you have much luck with the common women. Maybe much luck with noble girls also, but no luck with their fathers," I said with a laugh.

“That sounds just like here,” I said, laughing again. We reached the aviary and I headed for where Gavina was waiting.

"Oh yes? I thought fathers are less hard here about those things," I said.

“Depends on the father and whether the daughter knows it’s just fun or thinks you’re going to marry her,” I said, chuckling, though both my laugh and voice were lower here among the birds.

"Oh," I said softly in understanding. "It is more simple in Ruskovia, with the common women. They know that it is fun, and no more. And the noble girls... You do not touch if you are not married to them."

“Have you not touched Lessa?” I asked as I removed Horus’s hood.

Ah, so the gossip had been at least a bit correct.
“Well, there are certainly enough other women to touch who aren’t noble,” I said, grinning. I stretched out my arm and Horus jumped to his perch.

I chuckled, thinking of my time with Isra. "Yes, there are," I agreed with a small smile.

I took off the gauntlet and switched out Horus’s jesses to the softer more comfortable ones now that he was inside again. Then I fished out a piece of pigeon for Gavina and offered her the small bit.
“You next time love, I promise.”

I idly thought to myself that Shea might never have children, but he would certainly always have his birds. "Where is a good place to find a bird for myself?" I inquired of him, thinking of Lessa.

“My estate,” I said, smiling as I closed up the door to their enclosure. “Were you thinking of getting one soon?”

I cast an eye over my clothing, making sure I was free of blood or other animal fluids and found myself presentable.
“I’m very ready. I’m starving,” I said, chuckling as I led him back out again.
