Had the carriage ride been a moment longer, I would have started undressing him, but I managed to keep myself in check. The carriage pulled to a stop and we disembarked, allowing it to move out of the way of the others that would soon be there.
I knew that inside the decorations had all been taken care of, lilies and valerian flowers tied with sapphire ribbon festooning as many spaces as possible. The food was ready, a lovely array of tidbits to satisfy any of the picky people attending.
“We’re home,” I said, grinning up at Christophe.

It seems that Jareth's stomach was bothering him, so I sent him home, arriving at Malabelle's with Soleil and Synnove instead. "And to think, in only a few weeks time we'll be doing this again," I commented to her quietly as we made our way inside. "Only next time we'll have far more important roles." I grinned teasingly at my old friend.

"I can hardly wait," I told her. "You're going to be a beautiful bride." There were only a few guests here so far. "Let's go congratulate the bride and groom so that I don't ruin Mala's day with my existence," I said dryly.

"Oh good, that means I get to do this," I replied as I scooped her up in my arms before she could climb down out of the carriage, and carried her inside. I put her down once we were in the front hall. "Welcome home wife," I whispered before kissing her tenderly. I wondered how long into the reception we were going to make it until one of us dragged the other away to our bedroom.

"Of course," I replied, and it did not take much to find Mala and Christophe, for they were kissing in the entrance hall. I thought about clearing my throat, but they were newlyweds so I only smiled a little.

I laughed with delightful as he scooped me up and carried me into the house. “Welcome home husband,” I murmured in return before he kissed me. It wasn’t long until I felt the unmistakable presence of others.
Drawing back, I wrapped my arm around Christophe’s and turned to see Ana, Soleil, and the baby.
“Thank you all for coming,” I said with a bright, honest smile.

Stepping out of the carriage, I smoothed my skirts and made my way inside. Making sure not to crowd, I hung back and waited for my turn to congratulate the couple on their wedding.

I was surprised to see her so genuinely happy. "Congratulations, Malabelle, Christophe," I said. "It was a beautiful ceremony, and you both look wonderful." Synnove, for her part, gurgled something and split her face into a grin, reaching out for Christophe.

“I’m so glad you came,” I said, smiling at Soliel. “I know it meant a lot to Christophe that you and Synnove be there.”

"Yes, thank you," I said with a warm honest smile. My hand went to Synnove's reaching one, and I let her hold me with her tiny fingers. "Hello little one. I'd like you to meet Mala." I shot a smile at my new wife.

Synnove smiled charmingly at Malabelle, and I felt my heart melt just a little. "Would you two like to hold her for a moment?" I asked. "I know you have other guests to greet, but if Synnove doesn't mind then I don't."

My heart grew warm watching Christophe with his daughter.
“I’d love to hold her, thank you,” I said, smiling and moving close enough so that Soliel could place her in my arms. “It’s so good to meet you, Synnove.”

I didn't mind that Synnove became the center of attention, in fact her happy gurgling made me smile. I kept quiet for now, knowing I could squeezing in a congratulations later. Now was clearly time for the baby.

I wasn't stupid enough to gape in surprise, but it was a close thing. Instead, I smiled even wider. Maybe this would work out after all. Gods this woman made me so happy.

Gently, I handed my baby over to Malabelle. Synnove cooed, before promptly reaching her chubby hand out to touch Mala's cheek.

Still smiling like an idiot, I took a step towards Mala and put my arms around the both of them. I kissed her ear and then whispered, "I didn't think this day could be any more perfect."

I held her carefully, my smile growing as she touched my cheek. Leaning into Christophe’s embrace, I said softly, “She’s beautiful. I can see so much of you in her.”

"She is absolutely beautiful," I agreed softly. I looked at the two of them together for a moment. I was so happy that my heart hurt. "Thank you," I mouthed to Soleil, grateful that she knew how much this meant to me.

Synnove gurgled, her fingers finding my hair and playing with it. I was enchanted, focusing wholly on her for a moment.

The ride back from the temple had gone quickly and I exited the carriage in what seemed no time. Smiling happily, I made my way inside, skirting the crowd that was crowing around my brother and his wife – his wife! I had a sister in law! – and heading to the kitchens to make sure everyone knew we had returned and to see if I needed to help with anything. Not that I expected I would need to, the servants here were very good.

The ride from the Elua's sanctuary to Christophe's house was short, I almost would have preferred to walk. I looked up at the handsome house as we stepped up to the front door. "Your brother has done well for himself," I commented to Pierre.

I was feeling strangely nervous, perhaps because I was about to walk into a house full of people who hated me. Added to that was the fact I was trying to impress Karina and I didn't want her to see me as the monster my family did; especially now. I hated to admit it, and I wasn't sure I could yet, but my feelings on Valerian House had been changing greatly, most of that because of Karina. "Yes, he has." I said smiling gently to her. It made me jealous and I didn't want to admit that either. "Mala has given him a comfortable life, he's lucky to have found her."

"You're welcome," I mouthed in reply to Christophe. The look on Malabelle's face was one I had never seen before, and for a minute, I felt hopeful that our unusual situation might actually be for the best.

Mala was at complete peace in my arms, her attention caught by the adorable bundle in her arms. I never thought I would see anything like it. When I looked up again, more people were standing behind Soleil and Anacrasia. Douleur, Karina, and .... Pierre? What the hell was Pierre doing with Karina's hand on his arm? He had mentioned bringing a date, but... I could only conclude that he couldn't possibly know that she was Valerian's Second. How on earth hadn't it come up in conversation though?
"Perhaps later I can introduce you and Synnove to my siblings?" I asked Soleil, forcing myself to stop thinking about my ass of an older brother. "I know Henri in particular is very excited to be an uncle."

We found ourselves in the full front hall, people stopping to talk with the happy couple. I glanced at Pierre, wondering if he wanted to wait our turn. "I don't know any Valerian, or any adept at all for that matter, that hasn't wished for what Christophe has found at one time or another."

I heard Christophe speaking of introducing his daughter around and I looked away from her with a smile. “Ah, I’m monopolizing her,” I said, chuckling. I placed a soft kiss on Synnove’s forehead and then handed her to Christophe. “Here love.”

Of course everything was under control, so I headed back out to the front hall. Christophe and Mala were still engaged with the baby, so I looked down the line and spotted Pierre – with a lovely woman.
“Pierre!” I said, smiling and going to him. “It is good to see you again.” I smiled at the woman he was with, but waited for introductions.

I laughed softly at Malabelle's comment. "I know I am biased, but she is very hard to let go," I said. I then replied to Christophe. "I would love for us to meet your siblings."

I took Synnove from Mala, and the babe made more happy sounds. "Yes, you'll get to meet all sorts of people today and be the center of attention. You're just going to love it aren't you?" I said to my daughter, a smile on my face. I leaned in and kissed the hand she was reaching up with before looking back to Soleil. "As soon as I round up my siblings, I'll come and find you," I said, reluctantly handing Synnove back to her mother.

I was paying attention to the group collecting in front of us; Mala, Christophe and a woman with a babe that I assumed was Christophe's get. I couldn't really focus on Karina's comment other then to mumble something about luck and love and finding the right person. My thoughts were firmly focused on the rapid succession of heart beats that were making me nervous and the things I would have to face when in this house. The only thing that seemed to break my focus from those thoughts was the arrival of my little sister. "Marie." I said with a gentle but perhaps awkward smile. I leaned forward, a hand at her shoulder as I kissed her forhead. Again it seemed awkward but it also seemed like something I should do, even if I hadn't done it in the past. "You look absolutely ecstatic." I offered with a bit of a teasing grin, forcing myself, reminding myself to relax. For a moment she just stared at me and I blinked before watching Marie's eyes go to Karina.
"Oh yes forgive me," I said shaking my head a little. "Karina, this is my little sister Marie Legard. Marie this is my..." I wasn't sure what to say right then, not sure how to classify Karina though I hoped to classify her as more then just my escort.
"This is Karina no Va... Valerian, Second of Valerian House." I stuttered a little on the last name, knowing that it would be a big deal. After everything I had put Christophe and my family through, I was showing up with a Valerian on my arm. I just hoped that Marie wouldn't make a big fuss out of it in front of Karina, I was pretty sure I was doing a good enough job making myself look like an idiot in front of her that I didn't need anyone else's help.
